This program is for swimmers who are interested in joining a swim team and have no competitive swim team experience. This is NOT a ‘learn to swim’ program but a starter swim team practice. Coaches will work on stroke development and the mechanics of swimming but will also introduce all the things that make a swim team practice different from swim lessons.

Prerequisites for this program include the ability to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) on your stomach with rotary breathing and one length of the pool on your back. Each class will be limited to 30 swimmers.

Our non-competitive swim team program is designed for swimmers that want to be active and involved in swimming and work on fitness and endurance during the winter months. This is ideal for summer swimmers that want to keep active, cross training with other sports, stroke improvement, trying out the sport of swimming, and staying active and fit. 

This is an advanced group where swimmers must know the four competitive swimming strokes, work independently away from caregivers, and work well in a group setting. 

Coaches will work with swimmers on all four competitive strokes and building endurance.  Swimmers will also be introduced to racing starts, turns, and streamlines.

This is NOT a learn to swim program.

• April 12-May 10, 2026

Schedule: Sundays from 12:00-1:00pm

Ages: 5-18 years

Location: Friendship YMCA

This program is for swimmers who have had previous competitive swim team experience. Clinics are set up based on the Friendship YMCA Swim Team levels. Clinics meet twice or three times per week depending on level. Leveling up or down will not be permitted for schedule accommodations.

If you are non-FSY swimmer and unsure of your level, please send most up to date times to [email protected] and our coaches will provide you with the appropriate level. No exceptions will be made to the requirement for previous swim team experience. Swimmers without previous swim team experience must first complete Into to Swim Team.

Clinic Levels:

• Green (ages 5-10): Swimmers who are not yet legal in 3 strokes and are able to swim 25 yards unassisted.
• Orange (ages 7-10): Swimmers who are legal in 3 strokes and are able to swim a 60 min practice consisting of continuous sets 50 yards and up.
• Red (ages 9-12): Swimmers who are legal in all 4 strokes and are able to swim a 60 min practice consisting of continuous sets 50 yards and up.
• Purple/Blue (ages 12-18): Swimmers who are legal in all 4 strokes and are able to swim a 60-minute practice consisting of continuous sets 100 yards and up.

Take your swimming to the next level with our Launch into Long Course training sessions. This program is designed to help swimmers transition from short course to long course racing.

Swimmers will train in a long course pool, focusing on pacing, strong technique, and developing the confidence needed to compete successfully during the long course season. Practices will include a mix of stroke work, aerobic sets, race-pace training, and skill development tailored for competitive swimmers.

This is a great opportunity for athletes looking to sharpen their skills and prepare for long course competition in a focused training environment.

• Ages 9 and older
• Completed one winter season of competitive swim team
• Proficient in all four strokes

Our highly successful WSY Competitive Swimming Stroke Clinic is part of our Pathway to Competitive Swimming and  is structured for children between the ages of 6-13 years of age. We have three (3) sessions available, including a Monday/Wednesday session, Tuesday/Thursday session, and Friday/Sunday session.

Most swimmers in this pathway class will have previously participated in our  Pre Competitive Take Your Mark and Mini Swim Team programs.

We ask that participants indicate which session they will attend most of the clinic, however you are free to switch days if you have conflicts with other activities. Concentration for all clinics will be on stroke drills, proper stroke technique, and consistency.

This program is the third part of competitive swimming pathway designed to slowly move swimmers from the pre-competitive level to the competitive levels.

This program is great for summer league swimmers, Country Club swimmers, or children advancing out of swim lessons. Prerequisites for this program include the ability to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) on your stomach with rotary breathing and one length of the pool on your back in a group setting. Each class session will be limited to 40 swimmers.
