Participants will learn basic ballet techniques in a fun and low-key environment. Students will gain coordination, flexibility, musicality, and appreciation for the art of dance.

Hip hop is an energetic style of dance that will get you moving fast on your feet. In hip hop, students will be encouraged to learn how to move all different parts of their body with isolation work, and intricate footwork. Students will also learn how to put these various movements together so that they flow into the hip hop style. Performance is a huge part of hip hop, in which students will learn how to incorporate facial expressions with their movements to become affluent with the nature of the style.

• Ages 12-15: Tuesdays from 8:15-9:00pm in the Fitness Studio

Location: Friendship YMCA

Tap dance is characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes to strike the floor as a form of percussion. Dancers will be taught a variety of techniques such as “shuffling,” “flapping,” and “heel and toe taps.” Skills will continue to build off of each other in tap. Tap dance is very expressive and will combine some elements of ballet and jazz within its unique style.

Students are required to have a pair of tap shoes for this class.

Ages: 8-11 years

Location: West Shore YMCA

This class will have students learn expressing the mood and lyrics of a song through movement. Lyrical uses elements of ballet and jazz in order to tell a story with inner emotion through dance.  New elements for returning participants, and great for new participants.

Dates: May 2-June 20, 2025 (7 classes), no class May 23
