Swim Lessons – Parent/Child
Children can relax easier in a pool setting when their parents are also comfortable in the water! The Harrisburg Area YMCA offers parent-child swim lessons for children between 6-36 months old. Class ratios are 1:10. We introduce children to the water through group activities and games, while a parent accompanies them in the pool. A child’s development levels determine which skills we introduce and build on each other as the child progresses. Basic skills are taught through songs and fun games. All children must wear a swim diaper under their swimsuit.
Stage A: Water Discovery
Introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment.
Stage B: Water Exploration
Focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.
